Following the selection of Amsterdam as the host city of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and following the national proposal, the transfer of the National Authority of Medicines and Health Products (Infarmed) from Lisbon to Porto was announced.
According to the Government's decision, the relocation will take place in 2019 and will count on the support of the Municipality of Porto through the City Councillor for Economy, Tourism, Commerce and Management of Community Funds, Ricardo Valente, responsible for the dossier of the EMA proposal.
Infarmed's mission is to "regulate and supervise the drug, medical devices and cosmetics sectors according to the highest standards of public health protection, and ensure access of health professionals and citizens to high-quality, effective and safe medicines, medical devices, cosmetic products” according to the information on the authority’s website.
