Second edition of Summer OpPORTOnities increases the number of internships

Second edition of Summer OpPORTOnities increases the number of internships
Porto. · 28 Jun 2023
The first internships of Summer OpPORTOnities start in July. In the second edition, the Municipal Labour Market Immersion Programme will boost the first contact of 49 young people with companies operating in the city. The municipal contribution exceeds 63 thousand euros and the support was approved by the Municipal Executive in last Monday's meeting, with the abstention of Bloco de Esquerda.

The number of trainees has increased, as well as the number of companies that will receive them. Between July and August, 28 companies in the areas of Hospitality/Tourism, Human Resources/Marketing, Training/Education, Management Consulting, Information Technology/Engineering and Logistics/Services "will have the possibility of early identification of talent in their respective areas of activity".

The 49 young people - aged between 18 and 21 - are students or residents in the city and were selected from a universe of more than 200 applications received. Coming from areas such as Economics, Law, Computer Engineering, Tourism or even Physiotherapy and Biology, they will receive an internship scholarship assumed by the Municipality of Porto.

The companies will be responsible for the food subsidy, as well as for the work accident insurance.

After a first pilot edition with "a great success", through which, said, at the end of the programme, the Councillor for Economy, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Ricardo Valente, "we wanted to give young people the opportunity to develop, in a professional context, skills that make them more able to integrate the labour market in the future", the City Council decided to strengthen the investment in the second edition of Summer OpPORTOnities.

The internship contracts were signed this Friday afternoon, in a moment, which, besides the possibility of opening the doors to networking between young people and companies, offered two kick-off workshops of the program, both dedicated to professional integration and streamlined by the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto.
