The "Digital Nomad Visa” is granted to employees and independent professionals and allows them to work remotely from Portugal for a foreign employer/entity.
This Visa can be temporary, in case these professionals stay in the country for less than one year. However, it can also take the form of a residency Visa, should the stay last for any longer.
Requirements
For stays under one year (temporary):
Both foreign employees and independent professionals need to provide the following documentation:

- Proof of average monthly income for the previous three months: the monthly earnings need to correspond to a value of at least four times the Portuguese minimum wage (fixed at 760€ for 2023);
- Proof of tax/fiscal residence;
- General documentation for all types of temporary stay visas.
Foreign employees also need to specifically provide either an employment contract, the promise of said contract, or a statement by their employer that proves the employment relationship, while foreign independent professionals need to provide one of the following documents: company contract, contract for the provision of services, written tender for a service contract, or a document demonstrating services provided to at least one entity.
For stays over one year (residency):

How to obtain
The application for the Digital Nomad Visa must be presented by the foreign citizen at a Portuguese consular post and consular section. Once submitted, the applicant is provided with information regarding the entry and stay in national territory, the legally required documentation, as well as the rights, duties, and guarantees they’re entitled to.
