Companies choose old Central Shopping for a new business center in Bonfim

Companies choose old Central Shopping for a new business center in Bonfim
Porto. · 12 Jan 2022

Despite not being fully completed yet, it already meets the necessary conditions to attract excellent companies. The old Central Shopping, between Rua de Santos Pousada and Avenida de Fernão de Magalhães, is moving at a good pace to take on the new identity of Porto Business Plaza, the new business center in Bonfim, which will employ 3,500 people.

Built during the flourishing era of shopping centers in the '90s, the Central Shopping is now following the future and attracting companies in the technological area. After Natixis and Feedzai, Bouygues Telecom Services has inaugurated its offices.

From Areosa to Bonfim, the company of the French telecommunication group Bouygues Telecom occupies now one of the floors of Porto Business Plaza, with the capacity to receive more than 500 employees, in addition to the current 375. The recruitment process has been ongoing.

The French investment bank Natixis has had its technological and information skills center there since 2018, in what has been a growing bet on the business and the team working from Porto.

In 2021, the institution has bet on Invicta and is already employing 1,500 people, but the prospect, according to Jornal de Notícias, is to increase the office space - from 12 to 16 thousand square meters - and thus employ up to two thousand employees.

The Porto Business Plaza is also home to the Portuguese unicorn in the area of artificial intelligence, Feedzai. With about a hundred workers in the city, the company specialized in security systems moved into the 980 square meters of the new office in the old Central Shopping Center in September of last year.

The project for the Porto Business Plaza began construction in July 2020 and, besides the creation of offices, there are transformations such as the change of the main entrance - which goes from Rua de Santos Pousada to Avenida de Fernão de Magalhães given the recent redevelopment of that road, as well as the proximity of public transport - the creation of outdoor spaces inside the building, as well as the intervention in the square, connected to the Campo 24 de Agosto garden.

In total, the more than 15 million euros invested by a company of the SDC Investimentos group may represent space and conditions for, in the future, the employment of 3,000 to 3,500 people, according to the shareholder and manager of the enterprise, António Castro Henriques, quoted by Jornal de Notícias. The expectation is that, by the summer, 2,600 professionals are working in Porto Business Plaza.
