Continental chooses Porto for new facilities and will hire 300 engineers
13 Nov 2019

The city of Porto was once again chosen for investment by a foreign company. This time, it was the German tire group, Continental, that decided to set up the CES - Continental Engineering Services technology development center here and to continue to expand beyond the tire business.

The center to be set up in Porto "could employ about 300 engineers," said the newspaper Negócios, based on a statement from Continental, which plans to develop new products, integration services and consulting in the city.

"After almost six years of information exchange, studies, analysis and negotiations, it is with great pleasure that we see the installation of this new company in Portugal. This is another significant step of what has been our strategy of recent years: to bring to Portugal, other business areas of the Continental group, such as this one", said Continental Mabor president, Pedro Carreira.

The creation of the new company in the city meets the dynamism of recent years, which has allowed to attract numerous investments and qualified job creation in Porto, thus contributing to its establishment. Incidentally, Continental Mabor's manager stresses that, with the creation of the new company in Porto, "we opened a door for young graduates in Portugal, because all CES employees are highly qualified".

The newspaper Público, on the other hand, points out that the company will be located in Asprela's university center, which will become a place of excellence with the creation of a large green park, benefiting from its physical proximity to the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. The goal is to take advantage of these professionals to develop solutions focused on the electric vehicle market, autonomous driving and cybersecurity.

"We are proud to expand our activities to Porto and build a team of excellence", said Jochen Diehm, director of Continental engineering services, quoted by Público, saying he believes in the quality of Portuguese engineers and is "confident that this new location will be the cornerstone of our future success."
