Porto Leading Investor Critical Manufacturing has announced the acquisition of Convanit, a German company specialising in artificial intelligence (AI) focused on visual analysis for highly complex industrial environments.

The acquisition aims to strengthen Critical Manufacturing’s data platform capabilities by integrating visual AI technologies that enable significant gains in precision, automation and operational intelligence for the manufacturing sector.

With its flagship solution — c-Alice — Convanit has developed a powerful image classification engine adapted to demanding industrial environments. This technology allows manufacturers to quickly create and implement customised AI models for visual inspection, without the need for advanced programming or data science skills. What once required time-consuming manual inspections can now be carried out with greater speed, precision and integrated quality control.

"We created c-Alice to make visual AI simple, flexible and effective for manufacturers. Teaming up with Critical Manufacturing takes our vision to a global stage, incorporating it into one of the most powerful MES ecosystems on the market," says Michael Meinel, co-founder of Convanit.

For Critical Manufacturing, this acquisition represents a strategic step in promoting data-driven industrial solutions in line with Industry 4.0 principles.

"Manufacturers face increasing pressure to deliver higher quality, faster and with full traceability. Yet visual data remains one of the most underutilised assets on the shop floor," says Francisco Almada Lobo, CEO of Critical Manufacturing.
