Smartwatt, a company from Porto with more than 15 years of experience in energy services, decided to split the business area dedicated to Artificial Intelligence into a new company, Enlitia, which already has a portfolio of clients in 11 countries, including EDP Renewables, Galp, Ventient Energy and the Italian ERG. Focused on intelligent systems for large renewables, Enlitia is focused on international markets, since there is little room for growth in Portugal. Smartwatt will be exclusively dedicated to the processes of decarbonisation and energy transition for industry and large buildings, areas where "there is still a long way to go in the national market".

With more than 10,000 assets under monitoring, from around 15 partners on three continents, Enlitia guarantees that the application of its algorithms enables 54 hours of extra annual production for each wind tower, in addition to the 2700 hours that a wind turbine operates at full capacity on average, thus ensuring an annual saving of more than 2 million euros for each GW of installed power. This is thanks to the "unique ecosystem of algorithms" that the company has developed and which guarantees "the maximisation of solar and wind energy production, minimising the impact of its variability". Simplicity, flexibility and speed are other advantages, says Enlitia's CEO, explaining that this "unified and intuitive" platform makes it possible to "understand the status of renewable assets in real time and predict the days ahead", saving time and money.

The United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Germany and France are the major markets for immediate investment, and the goal is to expand the company's services "throughout Europe and, later, the United States and Latin America". Responsible for a million euros of sales in 2022, of the 6.7 million euros total that Smartwatt had, Enlitia already intends to invoice two million this year and to grow to 6.9 million euros in 2025.

External markets, which currently account for approximately 10% of the AI business, will this year ensure 30% of sales and in 2025, the objective is to be responsible for half of Enlitia's turnover. It has 23 employees, but expects to hire seven more by the end of the year, very closely linked to computer engineering and mathematics, namely specialists in data and machine learning - that it will hire "where they exist". Design is handled by three Ukrainian employees working from Slovenia, and user experience and user interface is handled by a team in Romania. And it is evaluating candidates from India.

Smartwatt, which has more than 200 customers in various sectors, from industry to hospitality, including service buildings, commercial spaces or hospitals, will focus on developing services and products related to digitalisation - with a view to helping define and implement strategies that enable the "effective and efficient" use of energy - and the associated savings. The new solutions related to batteries and renewable energy communities are other focus of investment. The company, which works with Bosch, Lusiaves Group, Soja de Portugal Group, Amorim, Sonae, Ramirez and MEO, among others, expects to make a turnover of 6.7 million euros this year, and to reach eight million euros by 2025.
