EUROCITIES Economic Development Forum

EUROCITIES Economic Development Forum
27 Mar 2018
The EUROCITIES Economic Development Forum took place in Braga, from the 26th to the 28th of March. The meeting gathered municipal officials and politicians from 43 cities of 19 European countries to discuss the role of cities on knowledge economy. Throughout three days, the participants were given the opportunity to get to know the work developed at StartUp Braga, INL, IBS-UMinho and leading companies of the municipality.

Tanja Wehsely, Chairwoman of the EUROCITIES Economic Development Forum and responsible for the Vienna Municipality, reminded that "for a city to be inclusive it must be a Smart City”. For her, the cooperation between the European cities is primordial in order for all of them to evolve. "We all have something to learn from each other and currently Europe has many challenges to face, so we must find, together, the best solutions and the best strategies for the good of people”, concluded Tanja Wehsely.

EUROCITIES was founded in 1986 by six big cities: Barcelona, Birmingham, Frankfurt, Lyon, Milan and Rotterdam. It intends to promote the exchange of the best practices and to represent the interests of the big cities by the community institutions, promoting the inclusion of the urban demands in the European policies. It is currently comprised by 140 cities from over 40 countries.
