Germans invest in Porto and reach 300 workers

Technology developed by Körber in Portugal allows intelligent inspection of vaccine vials and more efficient transportation.

March 23, 2020. While Portugal was at the beginning of its first confinement, the industrial group Körber had just registered its company in Porto for the technological field. The German group has an office in the Heroísmo area and will employ 150 people by the end of this year. 15 million euros have already been invested in the last 18 months.

In 2022, the team will double but most of the recruits will be working remotely. Paula Gomes da Costa, a professional with nearly three decades of experience in the technological area, is leading the Portuguese operations.

"We had to reinvent all the recruitment procedures", recalls the manager. Uncertainty was the main fear when hiring: "All the people we approached didn't know what was going to happen in a company that was just beginning. The name Körber didn't mean anything”.

Nevertheless, workers began to join the German group to develop artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions, so that the digital world would reach the traditional business units of the German group (industrial machines for tobacco manufacturing, logistics, toilet paper, and pharmaceutical area).
