After Amsterdam was selected as the city which would host the European Medicine Agency (EMA) and following the national application, there was the announcement that the National Authority for Medication and Health Products (Infarmed) would be transferred from Lisbon to Porto.
According to the decision of the Government, this relocation should occur in 2019 and it will have the support of the Porto Municipality through the Councillor for Economy, Tourism and Commerce, Ricardo Valente, responsible for the file of the application to the EMA.
Infarmed´s mission is "to regulate and supervise the sectors of medicines, medical devices and cosmetic products, according to the higher standards for the protection of public health and assure the access by health professionals and citizens to medication, medical devices, cosmetic products, of quality, effective and safe”, according to the information on the website of the agency.
