Leading Investor Sword Health launches AI-powered national health hotline in Greece
Sword Health will manage Greece’s national health hotline, integrating AI to improve triage and enhance access to healthcare for over 10 million citizens
Porto Leading Investor Sword Health has announced a partnership with the Greek government to manage the country’s national health hotline. The collaboration will introduce artificial intelligence into telephone triage, supervised by clinical teams, to guide citizens’ healthcare access efficiently. The initiative draws inspiration from Portugal’s SNS 24 service and aims to serve over 10 million people.
Initially, the project will focus on the National Health Information Line. Following the evaluation of initial results, the plan will expand to include the Medical Emergency Line, equivalent to Portugal’s CODU. Both lines are expected to be fully integrated with advanced AI systems by the end of next year.
The AI technology, developed by Sword Intelligence, will assist frontline healthcare staff by automating routine tasks, increasing capacity, reducing response times, and providing resilience against sudden spikes in demand. The Greek government anticipates that this digital transformation will enhance efficiency, accessibility, and overall patient experience.
Sword Health’s CEO, Virgílio Bento, highlighted the global potential of AI in healthcare, suggesting that other countries may soon replicate this model. Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis emphasised that the partnership will help reconstruct the healthcare workflow, making it faster, efficient, and more convenient for citizens, with independent international bodies overseeing the project to ensure safety, quality, and data privacy standards.
