Mercadona enters Portugal through Porto

The Spanish retail company plans to invest 25 million euros until 2019 in offices already in Porto and Lisbon, as well as in the construction of the four supermarkets that will open in the Greater Porto area. The first of these commercial areas will be opened in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia.
Mercadona has already hired around 85 managers in Portugal from a total of 350 workers that intends to have until 2019, when the first four supermarkets in the Greater Porto area opens.
According to data supplied by Mercadona, the company claims leadership in the food distribution and sales market in Spain, with a share of 22.9%, ahead of the Dia and Carrefour groups with 8.5%, and Lidl, with 4.1%.
