It will be the chain's 22nd store in Portugal and the second to open this year. This new supermarket is located at Rua Diogo Botelho (entrance to the car park at Rua da Pasteleira, no. 219), and will create 65 new jobs in the city. This store, which has a sales area of 1,900 sq. mt., responds to the company's Efficient Store Model as it will have 240 parking spaces, ten designated for charging electric vehicles, meeting the company's commitment to electric mobility.

This supermarket will have implemented the 6.25 Store concept, inserted in the company's Strategy 6.25, which has the triple objective of, by 2025, reducing 25% of plastic, making all plastic packaging recyclable and recycle all plastic waste generated in the facilities. Within the scope of the company's Social Responsibility Policy, this new supermarket will donate essential goods to the Obra Diocesana do Porto [Diocesan Work for Social Promotion of Porto], a local social solidarity institution with more than 55 years of existence, with which it signed a cooperation protocol. This cooperation between Obra Diocesana do Porto and Mercadona will take place on a daily basis, from Monday to Friday, and consists of the donation of basic necessities that represent a valuable help in the lives of those who need it most.

Mercadona continues with its expansion plan and the forecast for 2021 is to open a total of nine stores in the country, with an estimated investment of 150 million euros, and will recruit 600 people, always with an effective contract from the first day. In addition, it will continue with its firm commitment to national suppliers, from which, in 2020, it purchased products worth 208 million euros. If we add the service and transport providers to this data, it amounts to a total of 369 million euros.
