More investment and job creation for Campanhã

More investment and job creation for Campanhã
16 Dec 2020

The easternmost parish in the city of Porto has, as of today, a new Mercadona supermarket, which immediately creates 60 new jobs.

This is the opening of the second store of the Spanish chain in the city and the twentieth at the national level.

For the Mayor of Porto, the investment "is in line with the Municipality's commitment to the eastern part of the city”, being legitimately linked to "ongoing emblematic projects” in the parish, "namely the Campanhã Intermodal Transport Terminal, which is in final construction phase, and the Matadouro Project, an investment of 40 million euros, with the start of work scheduled for September 2021”, points out Rui Moreira.

The mayor also stresses that this bet by the food distribution company "reinforces the development plan of the Porto City Council" and signals that, "despite the adverse economic context due to the pandemic", the city remains "a place of choice for making new investments”, as has been verified by InvestPorto, a municipal investment attraction office that frequently receives new requests for support.

Rui Moreira also closes his statement, hoping that this investment can trigger the "dynamism of the local economy through the promotion of employment".

The new Mercadona store is located at Alameda de Cartes, no. 448. It has a sales area of 1,900 square meters and all employees are guaranteed permanent contracts.

The inauguration took place this morning, with the presence of the councilor for Economy, Tourism and Commerce of the Porto City Council, Ricardo Valente, the president of the Campanhã Parish Council, Ernesto Santos, and the president of the Parish Assembly, Sandra Santos.

The expansion plan does not end here. Mercadona makes it known that it has already started the selection and recruitment processes for five new supermarkets to open in 2021. For Porto, a third store is planned.
