Municipality of Porto promotes summer internships to introduce young people to the job market

The Municipality of Porto will start an immersion program for young people in the job market. Approved in the Executive meeting this Monday, the strategy grants a support of 75 thousand euros for the creation of summer internships, in several entities, for people between 16 and 21 years old.

Under the designation "Summer opPORTOnities", the program has the objectives of "providing young people a first contact with professional experiences and of immersion in an organizational dynamic" and of "guaranteeing adequate working conditions and learning contents, not only to the curricular plans but also to the professional market demands".

Targeting young people between 16 and 21 years old, with secondary education, vocational technical higher education course or higher education, the programme foresees the creation of scholarships for internships - between June and September - in several entities based in Porto, in the areas of hospitality and catering, logistics and commerce, and information technologies (IT).

The value of the grants is calculated according to the level of qualification and includes food allowance, work accident insurance and transport costs. Applications are expected to start during the month of May.
