Porto Becomes Pepco’s New Tech Hub for European Transformation
Pepco has opened a digital hub in Porto to drive its European digital transformation and create 60 new tech jobs
Pepco, one of Europe’s fastest-growing low-cost retail chains, has strengthened its presence in Portugal with the opening of a new Digital IT Hub in Porto. The facility, launched earlier this month, is designed to support the company’s technological and digital evolution across 18 European markets.
According to Chief Information Officer Pablo De Ayala, Pepco’s new project highlights Porto’s potential as a strategic hub for attracting technological talent and accelerates digital transformation within the group.
The company describes the project as both "significant and strategic”, aiming to develop new capabilities in data analytics, artificial intelligence, and enterprise resource planning systems. The hub will focus on improving customer engagement technologies and modernising back-office operations to create a more seamless and innovative retail experience.
Initially employing around 60 professionals, the Porto centre is expected to expand gradually as Pepco’s digital needs grow. With over 20 stores already established in Portugal since entering the market in 2023, Pepco’s decision to locate its new digital hub in Porto underscores the strategic importance of the Portuguese market in supporting the brand’s European ambitions.
