Porto has the third best airport in Europe
01 Mar 2016
Located in Porto, Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport was awarded the third best European airport in 2015 by ACI - Airports Council International.

This is the third consecutive year that the airport infrastructure has received this award. Between 2006 and 2011, Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport has been in the top three and has been considered the best European airport in 2007.

The prize was awarded based on a survey to passengers, which focused on waiting times, courtesy of staff, cleanliness and comfort, amongst other indicators.

ACI represents about 450 airports in 45 countries, being responsible for 90% of Europe’s air traffic and handling of more than 1.7 billion passengers annually.

Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport has doubled the number of passengers and routes in the last ten years.

Porto's airport reached 8.1 million passengers in in 2015, an increase of 16.7% over the previous year. It was the second highest growth amongst domestic airports, after the Azores airport, which benefited from the effect of air links liberalization and thus the entry into operation of the so-called low-cost carriers.

Over the last decade, the number of passengers using Francisco Sá Carneiro’s airport increased from 3.1 million in 2005 to 8.1 million in 2015, the year in which the airport celebrated 70 years of existence.
