"Porto has grown into a global FDI hub of the future, being ranked for the first time as Europe’s best large city for FDI strategy in fDi’s European Cities and Regions of the Future 2023 awards.

Located in northern Portugal, Porto is the center of the so called Porto Metropolitan Area where 1.7 million people live. It is an economically competitive and industry-driven region, representing 16% of Portugal’s GDP in 2021. In recent years, Porto has become a hotspot for foreign direct investment (FDI) in Southern Europe, attracting over 2.7 billion euros in FDI projects and and been able to create 17,400 jobs over the last 3 years.

The volume of investment by foreign companies remained strong during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, reaching a record level of 1.1 billion euros in 2022.

Porto’s value proposition as a global FDI hub of the future stems from the region’s vast pool of talent, its world-class universities, the city’s thriving innovation and entrepreneurship environment, its optimal location with a modern digital infrastructure and great connectivity to EU and global markets, as well as Porto’s exceptional quality of life and welcoming nature.
