Porto keeps its A- Fitch rating
The international rating agency highlighted Porto's robust financial management
International rating agency Fitch recently confirmed that the city of Porto's credit rating has been maintained at an "A-" level, with a positive outlook. This decision reflects the robustness of the Municipality's financial management, with balanced accounts, controlled debt, and an administration capable of guaranteeing stability and confidence.
Besides maintaining the rating, Fitch also upgraded Porto's risk profile to "High Midrange", signalling that the city is in an even safer position to face any economic challenges. Another highlight is the rise in the so-called SCP (Stand-Alone Credit Profile) to "aaa" level, a recognition that highlights the robustness of municipal finances and the almost zero risk of default, placing Porto among the best financially managed cities in Europe.
Fitch emphasises the prudence of Porto's budget management. Unlike other administrations, which resort to debt to finance investments, Porto has opted for responsible management, with a gradual reduction in debt and no risky projects on the horizon.
This attitude reinforces the confidence of investors, institutional partners, and citizens, ensuring a solid basis for continuous investment in priority areas such as housing, mobility, culture, and the environment, while also guaranteeing an overall better quality of life for everyone in the city.
