Portuguese-German company expands operations to support international technology projects from Porto

Porto Leading Investor xelerate.tech invests €2 million in new technology hub in Porto

xelerate.tech has invested €2 million in a new technology hub in Porto, reinforcing the city’s role as a strategic base for international technology operations and foreign investment.

Located in Porto’s industrial area, the new 1,000-square-metre hub brings together the company’s different operations and currently hosts around 95 employees. The space was designed to support the company’s continued international growth and the expansion of engineering teams dedicated to global projects managed from Portugal.

Founded in Porto in 2021, xelerate.tech specialises in helping foreign companies establish technology operations in Portugal through a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model. Under this approach, the company recruits, builds and manages local engineering teams on behalf of international partners, with the possibility of later transferring the operation to the client’s own structure.

According to CEO Martin Zierheim, "We never wanted to create an office where people are forced to show up. In technology, we know remote work functions well. The goal of this new hub is to create a space where teams want to be, because of the collaboration, knowledge sharing and culture we can build when people come together.”

The new hub includes collaborative workspaces, large meeting rooms and areas designed for internal events, workshops and meetups. Its location was chosen for its proximity to Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport and quick access to Porto city centre, facilitating coordination with international teams and partners.

The company has been expanding operations with international partners including Markant, Orise and Techem, while continuing to prepare new international partnerships from its Porto base.
