Porto researchers create devices that generate energy from waves

Porto researchers create devices that generate energy from waves
Dinheiro Vivo · 08 Mar 2021
Researchers from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP) developed three devices that, from the movement of the waves, manage to generate electrical energy and the objective now is to install them in ocean buoys, as announced today.

In a statement, FCUP explains that the study which was published in the scientific journal Nano Energy and developed by researchers from the Institute of Physics of Advanced Materials, Nanotechnology and Photonics, had the mission of "generating energy from the movement of waves".

As part of this study, the researchers developed three nanogenerators that, through the movement of the waves, manage to generate electrical energy.

Nanogenerators use two triboelectric materials with different polarities to generate this type of energy.
