Amazon has selected 11 new start-ups and scale-ups to join the ClimateTech group of the Amazon Sustainability Accelerator, a programme created to drive the development of innovative solutions in the climate field. Lasting four weeks, the programme combines workshops with experts, mentoring sessions and leadership panels. Some participating companies will also have the opportunity to test their solutions in pilot projects integrated into Amazon's European operations.

There were over 550 applications, but only 11 companies were chosen. All of them are working on three critical environmental challenges: energy efficiency, waste reduction and water management.

Among those selected is Porto-based start-up Omniflow, which has developed urban lighting poles powered by wind and solar energy, capable of reducing energy consumption by 90% compared to conventional models. These smart lampposts incorporate motion sensors that automatically adjust light intensity when there is no activity and can be equipped with smart city features such as air quality monitoring, electric vehicle charging and 5G connectivity.

"Our mission is to revolutionise urban infrastructure through clean energy,” says Pedro Ruão, founder and CEO of Omniflow. "By transforming simple lampposts, we are helping cities reduce their carbon emissions while building the digital infrastructure needed for the connected communities of the future.”

The Amazon Sustainability Accelerator, supported by Founders Intelligence (Accenture), was launched in 2022 with a focus on sustainable consumer products. Since then, it has expanded into climate technology and has supported more than 70 companies in six groups.
