According to The Healthcare Technology Report, the list places Sword Health's CEO in 18th place, distinguishing his leadership and recognising the unicorn's impact on society.

The founder and CEO of Sword Health, Virgílio Bento, was elected one of the top 50 CEOs of technologies operating in the health area in 2023. The list, drawn up annually by The Healthcare Technology Report, places the Portuguese manager in 18th place worldwide, distinguishing his leadership and recognising the impact of the Portuguese unicorn, which provides digital physiotherapy services, on society. He is the only Portuguese on the list.

"Virgílio Bento has dedicated his career to bringing positive change to healthcare, using technology to improve patient experience as well as outcomes and value," the entity responsible for the list highlights.

"From the first launch of Digital Physiotherapist to the most recent unveilings - Predict and Bloom - Sword's solutions address specific pain-related issues. In the company's latest innovative move, Sword's products have been unified under the Sword Platform, which works to comprehensively predict, prevent and treat pain."

Pointing out that the company's founder and CEO has authored more than 40 research papers, The Healthcare Technology Report further highlights that "his work has been featured in the world's top scientific publications and at several MedTech conferences."

With over 600 employees, about half of which are in the United States and the rest in Portugal, Sword Health plans to continue to strengthen its team. Until the end of this year, the company intends to recruit over 300 professionals, about half of them in Portugal.

The podium places of "The Top 50 Healthcare Technology CEOs of 2023" belong to Michael Mahoney, CEO of Boston Scientific, Michelle Keefe, CEO of Syneos Health, and Helen Giza, CEO of Fresenius Medical Care.
