Prestigious Shanghai ranking places U.Porto among the top 300 in the world
Porto. · 18 Aug 2022
The University of Porto appears among the 300 best in the world in the 2022 edition of the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU 2022), known as the Shanghai ranking.

The information is provided by the news website of the University of Porto, which also states that this is the best position ever for that institution in the oldest and one of the most prestigious international rankings of higher education, drawn up by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.

With assiduity in the Shanghai ranking since 2007, the U.Porto had as its best classification its presence between the 301 and the 400 best in the world, a position it repeated for 11 consecutive years, from 2011 to 2021. This year's position is shared with the University of Lisbon.

For the 20th consecutive year, the ranking is led by Harvard University (USA), followed by Stanford University (USA), MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) and the universities of Cambridge (United Kingdom) and Berkeley (USA), respectively.

This year's edition examined more than 2,500 institutions to establish the ranking, according to criteria that include the number of Nobel and Fields medals - the Nobel in Mathematics - among post-graduate students and professors, the number of most cited researchers in their specialty and the number of publications in Science and Nature magazines.

It should be remembered that last month, the 2022 edition of the ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects also placed the University of Porto among the best in the world in 33 scientific disciplines.
