Solar energy from Porto wins 80 million euros contract

The company Voltalia, which has its solar hub in Porto, was selected by Smartenergy to build three solar parks. This choice represents an investment of 80 million euros in Voltalia, which is also responsible for the operation and maintenance of the new parks for a period of around 10 years.

The French renewable energy multinational Voltalia, listed on the Paris Stock Exchange, has established a partnership with the Swiss renewable energy group Smartenergy / Edisun Power for the construction of three solar parks, which will correspond to a total of 134 Megawatts.

According to a statement sent by Voltalia to "Porto.", the partnership provides that the company with facilities in Porto will provide all its "know-how" and turnkey service in terms of construction, operation and maintenance of solar parks, which will be located in Lisbon - South Bank and will be equipped with high efficiency photovoltaic panels and solar trackers.

The construction of the first projects will begin in the first half of 2020 and will involve more than 1,000 operators from different areas, with a total contract value of around 80 million euros.

"The quality of Voltalia's teams, all the know-how, solidity and experience of its integrated services, construction (EPC) and Operation and Maintenance (O&M), were the decisive factors for the selection of Voltalia", underlined the purpose the CEO of Smartenergy, Horst Mahmoudi.

With this deal, Voltalia - which was declared "Company of the Year 2019" - strengthens its leadership position in Portugal, with more than 350 MW of solar projects built and operated. The Portuguese team consists of approximately 200 employees, distributed by the offices of Porto and Oliveira de Frades, but "very internationally mobilized" to carry out projects for third-party customers, as well as for Voltalia-owned parks worldwide, according to advances Sébastien Clerc, CEO of the Voltalia Group.
