TAP has announced the creation of a new maintenance and engineering hub at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, in Porto, representing an investment of approximately €20 million and the creation of nearly 200 jobs. The announcement was made in the presence of the Minister of Infrastructure, Miguel Pinto Luz, and the Mayor of Porto, Pedro Duarte, highlighting the strategic importance of the project for the region.

Scheduled to be built over the next two years, the new facility will have the capacity to accommodate two Airbus A321 aircraft or similar models. TAP’s Chief Executive Officer, Luís Rodrigues, described the hub as a fundamental asset for the airline, noting that Porto Airport handled 17 million passengers in 2025 and offers ideal conditions to host such an operation.

According to TAP’s Chairman, Carlos Oliveira, the investment reaffirms the airline’s commitment to Northern Portugal, which he described as a strategic priority for the next decade. Alongside the new hub, TAP also announced an expansion of its operations from Porto, with flights to seven international destinations, including Luanda, New York, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, the Azores, Praia and Tel Aviv, as well as increased services to Boston.

Given the strategic importance of Porto as an aviation hub, the Government also signalled plans to study a future expansion of Porto Airport, with Minister Miguel Pinto Luz announcing the creation of a working group to assess this expansion, stressing the need for early planning to ensure balanced growth and positive impacts across the wider region.
