TUMO launches creative technology centre in Porto
The new TUMO centre in Porto provides free technology and creative education for teenagers, equipping them for the challenges of the future
TUMO, a creative technology centre already present in two Portuguese cities, is opening this year in Porto with a seven-million-euro investment.
The centre allows students aged 12 to 18 to choose their own projects in areas such as animation, programming, robotics, and music, fostering STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, maths) skills in an innovative, self-paced learning environment without traditional assessments.
Funded by both public and private entities and led by project mentor Pedro Santa Clara, TUMO will initially host 1,000 teenagers per week, including young people from vulnerable backgrounds, promoting inclusion, creativity, and personal development while complementing formal education.
Founded in Armenia and now operating in over 20 cities worldwide, TUMO has become a global model for creative and technological education. Its centres are designed to empower teenagers by combining technology, the arts, and project-based learning, giving them practical skills that prepare them for future careers and helping to cultivate the next generation of innovators and creative leaders.
