New ranking, new record of the University of Porto. The "QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022" distinguish the institution in 27 areas of study, including it among the 100 best in Architecture, Civil Engineering and Information Management.

Notícias UPorto highlights that this is the "best performance ever" of the institution in the "prestigious annual ranking of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS)". Standing out among the best in the world in 27 of 51 areas of study, the U.Porto was evaluated according to indicators such as academic reputation, reputation among employers and scientific production.

In this year's list, a reference to the debut and direct entry to the group of the 220 best in the area of Geophysics. The return of the University's Linguistics to the top 251-300 is also a remarkable novelty.

Always exceeding the positions of previous years, the U.Porto saw its performance improved in the areas of Electrical Engineering, Agriculture and Education (101-150), but also Medicine (151-200), Mathematics (251-300) and Physics and Astronomy (301-350).

In the other areas, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Sports, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Pharmacy are in the top 101-150, Environmental Sciences is in the 151-200 range of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, followed by Art and Design, in the 201-230 range. The list also includes Biological Sciences, between 201 and 250, and, in the group of the 300 best universities, Computer Science, Materials Science, Finance, Modern Languages, Medicine, Psychology, Chemistry and Sociology.

In addition to the rankings by specific areas, Quacquarelli Symonds also classifies the institutions in five major areas of knowledge. In this aspect, the major highlight of the University of Porto is the rise - from 248th place to 146th - of Life Sciences and Medicine.

When compared with other national higher education institutions, the University of Porto appears as the best in 14 areas of study. Here, Agriculture, Architecture, Art and Design, Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Education, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Information Management and Psychology maintain first place (alone or ex aequo with other institutions). What is new is the isolated leadership of Electrical Engineering and Medicine.

The University is also in second place in Computer Science, Materials Science, Sport, Finance, Physics and Astronomy, Geophysics, Management, Modern Languages, Linguistics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Sociology, and third in Economics.

Looking at the five major areas assessed, U.Porto is once again the best Portuguese in Life Sciences and Medicine and in Engineering and Technology.
