University of Porto leads in patent applications

University of Porto leads in patent applications
24 Aug 2020
The University of Porto and its associated institutes are highlighted this year, once again, in the field of Intellectual Property Protection. According to the Made in Portugal Patent Barometer, published this month by Inventa Internacional, 71 of the patent applications, both national and international, originated at the University of Porto. These figures refer to patent applications published in 2019 and not submitted.

The report also highlights the strong presence of Portuguese universities as the entities that most submit patent applications both in Portugal and in Europe, the United States and China (countries on which the analysis was focused). Of the 71 requests associated with U.Porto, 47 are related to inventions from the University Faculties and 24 from INESC TEC.

It is worth noting that the UP also renewed the first place as an institution that most submits patent applications in Europe.

The following places in the top 20 are occupied by the University of Minho and Novadelta - Comércio e Indústria de Cafés, both with 46 orders, by the University of Lisbon, with 31, and the University of Aveiro, with 25.
