Urban rehabilitation in the city of Porto has skyrocketed in the last three years, with the city being authentically in reconstruction, after having, at the beginning of the decade, its Historic Centre comprised by derelict buildings.

In the last year, Porto Vivo SRU, the regulating authority of the urban rehabilitation in the city of Porto, received more than 1,300 applications and recorded 308 new urban rehabilitation processes, 153 more than in the previous year. These numbers show a city in rehabilitation, which is reflected in the streets, and which is destined to housing by 60% and to commerce by 23% of the permits issued since 2008. Tourism is also an important component, though still being a small one, leading to believe that if it wasn’t for tourism and Porto Vivo SRU’s boosting work, everything else would not exist.

The bids launched by Porto Vivo SRU show a growing interest in living or exploring the Historic Centre, especially because the Downtown, with all the dynamic it has nowadays, has become more interesting and safe not only for tourists but also for residents.
