17 May 2017
Vestas, a wind industry giant present in 75 countries, has chosen Porto as the center of its expansion in Portugal, within a global strategy. To justify the choice is the "offer of talent and proximity to universities and reference research institutes”.

The multinational - dedicated to the manufacture, installation and maintenance of wind turbines - will open, until 2020, an engineering center, an investment ranging from 5 to 10 million euros and will employ hundreds of professionals. Until then, and until the end of this year, Vestas will employ 80 professionals which, as the location is not yet defined, will work in the facilities of UPTEC - Science and Technology Park of University of Porto.

According to the company, "Porto offers access to a wide range of skills in the areas in which Vestas is employing, namely electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and computer engineering. The proximity to important and excellent universities and research institutes were other essential factors for the choice of Porto and Portugal”.

The priority given to Porto by this multinational company, which has a positive global impact on energy change, has been reiterating the growing interest of large companies in the city in recent years, which has already triggered to record figures the number of the employment of professionals.
