The foreign population living in Portugal increased in 2020 for the fifth consecutive year, 12.2% more compared to 2019, and totalling 662,095 citizens - the highest value recorded by the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF).
Though Brazilians remain the main foreign community residing in the country, there has been a sustained growth of foreign citizens from EU countries.
Attractiveness factors such as safety, quality of life, tax advantages, and an increasing number of job opportunities are among the most mentioned reasons by this new wave of newcomers.
