German CoreMedia acquires two Porto tech companies
By acquiring BySide and Smarkio, the German company enters the Portuguese and Spanish markets.
German content systems provider CoreMedia has acquired Portuguese technology companies Byside and Smarkio. The value of the deal was not disclosed.
According to a note sent to the newsroom, BySide is dedicated to the development of "omnichannel solutions for the intelligent management of the entire customer journey, from the delivery of personalised experiences in digital to the management of multiple channels". It has more than 70 employees and, at the end of 2022, reported a turnover of around €4.5 million. BySide works for more than 80 brands in the Iberian market and Latin America, with telecoms Altice, NOS and Vodafone and TAP among its client portfolio.
CoreMedia acquires BySide at a time when the technology company from Porto was closing the acquisition of Smarkio, another technology company from the city of Invicta. Therefore, in the process of acquiring CoreMedia "Smarkio was also incorporated", according to the same note.
Smarkio is dedicated to the development of chatbots based on digital marketing automation mechanisms.
"These acquisitions mark a significant step in our mission to elevate and impact the experiences our customers create. BySide's and Smarkio's innovative capabilities are perfectly aligned with our vision, allowing us to offer a complete solution that empowers brands to deliver exceptional experiences and achieve unprecedented conversion rates," said Sören Stamer, CEO of CoreMedia, quoted in the statement.
With this closed acquisition, CoreMedia enters the Portuguese and Spanish markets. In an initial phase, "BySide will maintain its brands and products, continuing to offer its innovative solutions for omnichannel management, personalisation and marketing automation". Vítor Magalhães, CEO and founding partner of Byside, will continue in the company's management structure but as general manager of the company.
