Natixis Launches COBOL Academy for Tech Professionals
In an exciting development, Natixis in Portugal has announced the upcoming launch of the second edition of its COBOL Academy, set to commence on July 2, 2024. The academy, which focuses on COBOL (Common Business Oriented Language), is designed for professionals with backgrounds in Exact Sciences and/or Technology, proficient in English and French, who are interested in reskilling opportunities.
The first edition of the COBOL Academy, held in November 2023, saw over a dozen participants eager to learn this essential programming language tailored for business use. Impressively, more than 90% of the participants from the inaugural session were successfully integrated into the Natixis team, highlighting the program's effectiveness in bridging skills gaps and facilitating career transitions.
Participants in the COBOL Academy not only gain valuable expertise in this critical language used in many vital systems but also have the opportunity to work on real projects, immersing themselves in the role of a true COBOL Developer. This hands-on experience is crucial for maintaining legacy systems, ensuring interoperability with new technologies, and processing large volumes of data.
Maurício Marques, Director of Human Resources at Natixis in Portugal, emphasized the unique opportunity the COBOL Academy presents for individuals looking to enhance their programming knowledge. He highlighted COBOL's significance as a foundational technology for financial systems and as a gateway for those aspiring to pursue careers in the tech industry.
Arnaud Fricotteau, Head of BPCE-SI at Natixis in Portugal, stressed the importance of training individuals in a language like COBOL, which, while considered dated by some, remains prevalent in many systems today. Fricotteau underscored Natixis's commitment to fostering a dynamic technological ecosystem in Portugal through programs that focus on upskilling and reskilling, including for COBOL programmers.
To apply for the COBOL Academy, interested individuals must have a background in Exact Sciences and/or Technology, as well as a proficient level of English and French (minimum B1 level for both languages). Applications can be submitted through the Natixis Career Page in Portugal until June 14, 2024.
